What are some of the features that make this truck’s incredible performance possible? Here’s a quick look at a few of its highlighted off-road-ready features:

  • 2-inch higher suspension and 3.5-inch-wider front/rear tracks than a standard Chevy Colorado
  • Segment-exclusive off-road application of Multimatic Dynamic Suspensions Spool Valve damper technology
  • Trailering package with a hitch and 7-pin connector
  • Heated front seats and steering wheel
  • HD Rear Vision Camera
  • StabiliTrak electronic stability control, trailer sway control, and hill-start assist

Chevy Silverado ZR2

The Chevy Silverado ZR2 is Chevy’s flagship off-road truck. It combines cutting-edge technology, interior comfort, and safety features with a comprehensive off-roading package. Desert off-roading and rock crawling are a cinch for the Chevy Silverado ZR2, thanks to an upgraded suspension and exterior enhancements to optimize performance off the beaten path. The Chevy Silverado ZR2 comes equipped with:

  • Springs that are tuned to increase maximum front and rear suspension travel
  • Front and rear e-lockers
  • Off-road chassis and suspension calibrations, including Terrain Mode, that allow for one-pedal rock crawling
  • Skid plate coverage
  • Specialized 33-inch off-road MT tires
  • Ground clearance that allows for a 31.8-degree approach angle

What Should I Know Before Off-Roading?

You don’t become an intermediate or expert off-roader overnight; you have to start somewhere! If you’re planning to take your new Chevy off-road truck out on the trails for the first time, keep the following tips in mind:

  • High vs. Low: Four-wheel drive “high” and “low” have different connotations. High gives you a higher top speed and is good for keeping your momentum on trails. Low gives you a lower speed but increases your grip for rock crawling.
  • Equipment You’ll Need: When you go off-roading, it’s essential to bring items like a first-aid kit, a phone and two-way radios, a fire extinguisher, spare water for the radiator, a full tank of gas, tow rope, and a winch. You may also want to bring a shovel, a jack, a spare tire, and a portable air compressor in case you get stuck or have a blowout.
  • Pre-Plan for Different Terrain: Different types of terrain require planning and research. Do your homework on the trail you’re interested in. Know whether you’ll be dealing with dry ground, mud, or sand, and know whether you’ll need 4×4 high or low and what psi your tires will need.

Our Favorite Off-Road Trails in Utah

Wondering where to go off-roading near Lehi and Orem? You don’t have to drive all the way to Moab to access some of the most exciting off-road trails in Utah. When locals come to us to ask for advice, these parks are always the first to come to mind:

  • Little Moab – This smaller park features some of the same natural formations that have made Moab famous, and it’s just southwest of Utah Lake.
  • American Fork Canyon – This forested seasonal park is just a short drive from Lehi or Cedar Hills, and it’s home to a wide range of trails.
  • Tibble Fork to Midway OHV Trail – Drive north from Wing to Tribble Lake, and you’ll arrive at a 31.5 mile trail that runs through the mountains.
  • Old Ephraim’s Grave Trail – Head even farther north, and you’ll eventually arrive at Old Ephraim’s Grave, near Logan.

What’s your favorite Utah off-road park? If you’ve had great experiences at a trail near Mountain or Spanish Fork, we’d love to hear from you any time!
