2020 Traverse Towing Capacity

Welcome to the Ken Garff Chevrolet Service Center

Who says you have to choose between the comfort of an upscale SUV and heavy towing capacity? If you pick the right options on the 2020 Traverse, you could be pulling your boat or camper around the area this weekend. The friendly experts at Ken Garff Chevrolet in American Fork can walk you through all of the options on any Chevy vehicle, and explain which ones are better for towing. But let’s take a look at the Chevy Traverse Towing Capacity as well as learn how to add trailer hitch to Chevy Traverse models.

Chevy Traverse Towing Capacity by Trim

The Chevy Traverse Towing Capacity depends on which trim you choose. Most of the trims on the 2020 Traverse have a modest towing capacity of 1500 lbs. But the Chevy Traverse High Country with an all-wheel drive drivetrain can pull up to a whopping 5,000 lbs. That’s more than enough to tow a couple of ATVs, a fishing boat, or a small camper trailer. No wonder it’s so popular with drivers. And it's pretty simple to add a trailer hitch to Chevy Traverse models. But the towing advantages of the High Country over the other trims don’t end there. There are some towing features that come standard on the Highland that aren’t available on all of the other trims.

How To Install a Trailer Hitch

First, you'll need to make sure you have the proper tools such as exhaust pliers, safety glasses, a torque wrench, an 18mm socket, 5-inch socket, and a 3/4 inch socket. After you gather these tools, start by removing the hitch door. Then, locate the weld nuts and lower the exhaust. After cleaning the weld nuts, position and attach the hitch to the frame. Now you can attach the hitch to the bumper beam. Torque the bolts and raise the exhaust back up. Then you can reattach the door if you'd like.
